Workshop

The ClinSpEn sub-tracks are part of the Biomedical translation shared task, celebrated within the Seventh Conference on Machine Translation (WMT22). WMT 2022 set to take place from 7 December to 8 December 2022, at the EMNLP 2022 Conference in Abu Dhabi.

The Workshop on Machine Translation (WMT) is one of the biggest events for machine translation research. Starting in 2006 (when it was known as Workshop on Statistical Machine Translation), it has become an annual occurrence as part of prestigious conferences such as ACL, NAACL or EMNLP. As well as scientific papers on topics related to machine translation in general, the workshop also houses different specialized shared tasks such as news translation, low-resource language translation, quality estimation and lifelong learning.

The biomedical translation task could be considered one of the main staples of WMT. It focuses on the translation of documents and terminology from the biomedical domain in varied languages like Romanian, German, Basque, Chinese or Russian. Document types used include scientific abstract, experiment proposal or clinical case reports, amongst others.

The 2022 edition of WMT will be held as part of the EMNLP (Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing) 2022 conference during November. For more information on the workshop, calendar, topics, etc. you can visit the workshop’s website.
